The composition displays symmetrical balance, with a handling of color and light that accentuates the theological drama. The treatment of the faces, hands, and draperies reveals a refined workmanship, characteristic of 17th-century viceregal art, and attributed to Juan Niño Guevara, a prominent Andean painter known for his chromatic sensitivity and his highly theatrical religious scenes.
