Friars. Signed Escudero. Spanish School. 19th Century - Oil on canvas. The scene depicts a group of friars engaged in an everyday scene in front of a religious building. Some of them are unloading supplies from the donkeys' saddlebags, while others observe or assist in the task. In the foreground, a friar bends down to tend to a fallen sack, while a small black cat prowls among the figures. The composition, arranged in the form of a horizontal frieze, is enriched by a sober palette of earthy tones, ochres, and browns, which contribute to the monastic atmosphere. The brushwork is loose but detailed, particularly in the depiction of the equine vestments and anatomy. The cold light of the clear sky contrasts with the warm tones of the building, lending depth to the whole. This work belongs to the religious genre painting of the 19th century in Spain, with a visual narrative that combines the devotional with the everyday. Signed 'Escudero'. 83 x 61 cm
