Cross-shaped Reliquary. Mexico. 20th Century - Silver with semiprecious stone inlays. Measurements: approx. 20 x 13 cm. Reliquary in the shape of a processional cross with a circular base, crafted in silver and decorated with stylized motifs inspired by pre-Hispanic art. The central structure features a symmetrical composition of filigree and stones such as carnelian, amethyst, and turquoise, arranged in geometric sections that reflect a syncretism of Christian and Indigenous aesthetics. From the arms of the cross hang two small kneeling angels bearing liturgical emblems. The upper section is crowned with a radiant motif symbolizing divine light. On the reverse appears the hallmark “México Sterling, ” confirming both origin and authenticity of the silver. This piece, characteristic of 20th-century Mexican religious silverwork, blends colonial tradition with ornamental features rooted in Mesoamerican heritage, illustrating the post-revolutionary evolution of sacred art and the assertion of national identity within devotional contexts.
