The contrast between the warm, veined tones of the tortoiseshell and the metallic sheen accentuates the elegance of the piece. A work typical of nineteenth-century jewelry, in which luxurious organic materials were combined with precious metals in everyday accessories, linked to the bourgeois taste for the exotic.
