Guadalupe. New Hispanic School. 18th Century - Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 29.5 x 20.5 cm. The Virgin of Guadalupe appears upright, in an attitude of prayer, surrounded by a golden glow in the shape of a mandorla, composed of alternating beams of light and framed by a red border. She wears a pink tunic with gold motifs and a blue-green mantle decorated with stars, which falls in soft folds. Beneath her feet, the moon and a guardian angel support her figure. To the right, a handwritten inscription can be seen. Her inclined face, with a pious expression and closed eyes, conveys a restrained spirituality. The use of intense colors, defined lines, and ornamentation respond to the stylistic patterns of the Novo-Hispana School of the second half of the 18th century, characterized by the spread of serial cult images. This painting, of popular design but deeply devotional, embodies the Guadalupe fervor and its function as a protective image in the domestic and religious spheres.
