The Virgin appears reclining, crowned, with her hands in prayer and her face serene, surrounded by floral and symbolic elements. Her deep blue dress with golden stars and white tunic evoke celestial purity. She rests on richly embroidered cushions, while a crescent moon appears beneath her feet. Around her, flowers and stars float in a golden shadow that accentuates the visionary character of the scene. The position of the figure, her sleepy expression, and the sumptuous details place the work in the tradition of the ”Sleeping Virgin” or ”Transit of Mary.” The sober style, the enveloping chiaroscuro, and the mystical symbolism recall the Zurbarán Circle of the mid-17th century, whose sensibility was oriented toward the contemplative and ascetic.
