Decorative Italian Neoclassical Grand Tour Medallion of the Emperor, 19th Century - Cast iron. Circular medallion with a profile bust of the Emperor Theodosius, conceived within the historicist tradition of the 19th-century Grand Tour. The effigy, worked in relief, shows the idealized face of the emperor wearing a laurel wreath, following models from classical Roman numismatics. The contours are precisely defined, emphasizing the volume of the curly hair and facial features, while the perimeter inscription reinforces the reference to imperial iconography. The patinated iron surface gives it a sober and solemn appearance, underscoring its commemorative and educational purpose. This piece, with a strong neoclassical character, demonstrates the 19th-century interest in the archaeological recovery and collecting of objects inspired by Antiquity. 17 cm diameter.
