Dating from the Hellenistic period (3rd-2nd century BC), this piece is part of the Greek sculptural tradition in which horses were symbols of power, nobility, and prestige. Bronze, the material used in this work, was highly prized in Greek sculpture due to its strength and malleability. The olive-green patina covering the figure is the result of the natural oxidation of the metal over the centuries. Formerly in a European private collection.
