JEAN-BAPTISTE GREUZE (Tournus, France 1725 - Paris, France 1805) and Workshop - The Broken Mirror - Oil on canvas, 56 × 46 cm. This work, datable between the late 18th and early 19th centuries, is a reinterpretation of the famous prototype popularized by Jean-Baptiste Greuze in the 18th century. The quality of execution is particularly evident in the expression of the young woman's face—moved by the broken mirror—as well as in the careful rendering of the white satin of the dress and the overall harmony of the scene, features that suggest it is a workshop replica attributed to the French painter. The original frame, consistent with the period, reinforces this chronological attribution. On the reverse, old labels affixed to the stretcher mention Greuze and also indicate that the work shares the same dimensions as the model. Batch in international warehouse (within the EU).
