Ángel Lizcano Monedero (Alcázar de San Juan, November 24, 1846 - Leganés, July 31, 1929) was a Spanish painter and illustrator. Born in 1846 in Alcázar de San Juan, 1 on November 24, he went to Madrid at the age of seven, where his parents were going to run a bookstore. At fourteen, he began studying at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando and there he received classes from Francisco Mendoza, obtaining the highest grades. He made copies of the Prado Museum, especially Goya, Velázquez and Murillo, but also contemporaries Eugenio Lucas and Leonardo Alenza and other Spanish authors. He was granted a scholarship in 1869 by the Marquis of Bedmar to finish his training in Italy; He then traveled extensively throughout Spain, taking sketches from life, and participated in the National Exhibitions of Fine Arts. In that same year, he sold a painting to Amadeo of Savoy. At these exhibitions, he won four medals (1876, 1878, 1881, and 1887) for his paintings Cervantes and His Models, Charles II Visiting the Monastery of Cardeña, The Capture of the Bullfighter, and Exhibition of Two Punchinels Representing the Monarchy and the Republic. He also participated in the 1878 Universal Exposition in Paris. He led an itinerant life between Madrid, Ávila, Toledo, El Escorial, Aranjuez, and Alcázar de San Juan.
