An example of an ancient ceremonial or exchange coin known as a ”throwing coin,” used in various regions of East Africa, especially Ethiopia. These pieces, in addition to their economic function, held strong symbolic and social value: they were used as dowries, ritual offerings, or status symbols. Their elongated and stylized design, forged from metal with an original patina, reveals the mastery of Ethiopian craftsmanship.
