Bidspirit auction | Buffet table. Portuguese School. 17th

Buffet table. Portuguese School. 17th century - Carved rosewood and vinhatico wood. Dimensions: 82 x 136 x 72 cm. Portuguese Baroque-style buffet table, fully restored by master craftsmen in Portugal, made of fine woods with richly ornamental carving. The rectangular tabletop, with a smooth surface and molded edge, rests on a decorated frame with three drawers that appear to be six, framed by a precisely carved, shimmering frieze. The repoussé brass handles and escutcheons feature Renaissance-inspired vegetal motifs. The robust legs are profusely turned into bulbous shapes and connected by similarly turned crossbars that reinforce the overall structural solidity. The design clearly reflects 17th-century Portuguese cabinetmaking, characterized by the use of exotic woods such as rosewood, understated yet elegant ornamentation, and a predilection for turned forms. The restoration, respectful of the piece's original character, enhances the natural beauty of the wood grain and restores the functionality of this prestigious piece of furniture. An outstanding example of Iberian Baroque furniture, it combines functionality, solidity, and decorative refinement. Dimensions: 82 x 136 x 72 cm.
