Striking large-format Spanish Pietà sculpture carved in wood and polychromed, dating from the late 18th century and belonging to the final phase of the Spanish Baroque tradition. The Virgin of Sorrows is shown seated, dressed in a black velvet cloak and antique lace, holding the lifeless body of Christ on her lap. Her face, deeply expressive, is enhanced with glass eyes and teardrops, intensifying the devotional impact of the composition. She wears an original chased silver crown and radiant halo, elements that emphasize her liturgical majesty. Christ's figure, rendered with naturalistic anatomical detail and its original patina, stands out for the sculptural treatment of the musculature, the restrained drama of the posture, and the serene expression of death. Polychrome cherubs flank the group, adding a celestial dimension to the ensemble.
