Our Lady of Sorrows. Spanish School. 19th Century - Carved, polychromed and gilded wood, with lace, textiles, and silver. Dimensions: 68 x 34 cm (carved), 85 cm total height with crown. 19th-century Spanish devotional sculpture of Our Lady of Sorrows, dressed in a sumptuous black velvet mantle, antique lace adornments, and an original period silver crown. The finely carved face conveys a deeply sorrowful expression, enhanced by glass eyes and crystal tears that intensify the emotional realism. The open hands are sculpted in a gesture of anguish, while a gilded heart pierced by daggers, the traditional Marian symbol of her suffering, is prominently displayed on her chest. Designed for private chapels or domestic altars, this figure is a remarkable example of 19th-century religious imagery, where emotional pathos is combined with exquisite attention to drapery and attire. The balance between sculptural finesse, expressive realism, and rich textiles makes this a representative piece of Spanish sacred art from the period. Very good condition. Dimensions: 68 x 34 cm (carved), 85 cm with crown.
