Sculpture height: 100 cm; total height with base and crown: 133 cm; width: 36 cm; crown: 22 x 31 cm; base: 9 cm. Striking devotional sculpture of the Virgin and Child, from the Spanish School of the 19th century, created for processional use or private worship. The Virgin’s face and hands are finely carved and painted, displaying a serene and maternal expression with remarkable naturalism. She is dressed in rich period fabrics, including a brocaded gown and a crimson and gold mantle, adorned with antique lace and metallic embroidery. In her right hand, she holds a symbolic fruit (possibly an apple), while her left hand supports a small figure of the Child Jesus, also carved and polychromed. The sculpture is crowned by an exquisite silver haloed crown, a symbol of her celestial sovereignty. This work is a splendid example of 19th-century Spanish Marian iconography, prized for its artistic refinement and deep devotional impact.
