Our Lady of Sorrows. Dressed sculpture with gilt silver crown. Spanish School, 19th Century - Carved and polychromed wood. Dimensions: 90 cm high (carved), 40 cm wide, 110 cm including base and crown. Devotional sculpture of Our Lady of Sorrows, attributed to the 19th-century Spanish school, likely Andalusian or Castilian. This is a dressed sculpture of the type known as “head and legs, ” with the head, hands, and feet carved in polychromed wood, while the interior body is structured to be clothed in textiles. The figure bears a serene and melancholic expression, characteristic of Baroque iconography of the Sorrowful Virgin. It retains its original polychromy with visible craquelure and minor wear due to age. She is dressed in antique brocade and silk garments with lace and is crowned with an impressive 18th-century gilt silver crown with radiant rays. The garments are original and of fine quality, preserved in acceptable condition. A solid and stable devotional work of significant artistic, symbolic, and spiritual value.
