Pair of Baroque Angels. Signed. Spanish School. 20th Century - Carved, polychromed, and gilded wood. Dimensions 60 x 24 cm. Pair of angels carved in wood and polychromed with gilded estofado technique, signed by Enrique Orejudo, a renowned Spanish sculptor of 20th-century religious imagery. These figures, devotional and decorative in nature, draw clear inspiration from 18th-century Baroque style, featuring well-proportioned anatomies, tenderly expressive infantile faces, and dynamic gestures. Each angel raises one arm in a liturgical pose, partially draped in richly patterned golden, red, or green garments, carved to suggest movement. The craftsmanship is evident in the detailed curls, refined modelling of limbs and body structure, while the vibrant polychromy and estofado enhance the visual impact through rich textures and chromatic contrasts. Set atop faux-marble pedestals, these works blend traditional Baroque iconography with contemporary execution, standing as exceptional examples of modern Spanish religious sculpture.
