P. Gaugin signed - Portrait of a Tahitian woman with a flower necklace - Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 50 × 35 cm. This is an antique oil on canvas depicting the portrait of a young Tahitian woman, shown in bust view, with floral necklaces around her neck and a flower in her hair. The figure, with a direct gaze and serene expression, is set against a simplified background of green tones, a characteristic feature of the pictorial language developed by Paul Gauguin during his time in Polynesia. The work displays formal characteristics typical of the artist's Tahitian period: the synthetic treatment of forms, the expressive use of color, volumetric simplification, and the exaltation of an idealized beauty, foreign to Western academic canons. The brushstrokes are loose and expressive, reinforcing the primitive and symbolic character that Gauguin consciously sought in his distance from European civilization. The painting is signed ”P. The work is titled ”Gauguin” in the lower left corner and is presented in an antique wooden frame, dating from around the 1950s. Its condition is good and stable, with craquelure consistent with the age of the support. Under ultraviolet light, a homogeneous varnish is visible with minor, localized retouching. Provenance: private collection, Lima (Peru), ca. 1930–1970; David Rivadeneyra Sotelo collection, Lima (Peru), by inheritance, 1970–2013; Dutch private collection, acquired in 2013 and held to the present.
