Bidspirit auction | Pair of angel corbels, Spanish

Pair of angel corbels, Spanish School, Late Baroque, 18th Century - Carved and gilded wooden corbels with wrought iron appliqués. The composition is articulated around two angels in flight, each holding curved shelves supported by painted metal scrolls. The angelic figures display careful workmanship in the carving of their curls, outstretched wings, and the serene expressions of their children's faces. The original gilding, with its aged patina, provides a visual richness that underlines the ornamental character of the pieces. These corbels, intended to decorate liturgical or palatial spaces, are part of the late Spanish Baroque repertoire, where the combination of gilded wood and metallic elements responded to a theatrical and dynamic aesthetic. The quality of the sculpture, together with the proportions and finishes, denote refined craftsmanship and a clear devotional and decorative intent. Dimensions: 36.5 x 49.5 x 29 cm.
