Bidspirit auction | Covered terrine of the East
Covered terrine of the East India Company with boar's head handles, China, 18th century - White porcelain decorated with cobalt blue underglaze. Measures 22 x 29.5 x 22 cm. A generously sized glazed terrine, decorated with a lakeside landscape that envelops the body with traditional architecture, vegetation, and waterways. It features two side handles modeled in the shape of boar heads and a vegetal-shaped handle on the lid, sculptural elements that lend character and relief to the piece. The painting combines defined strokes and shaded areas to accentuate the spatial depth. A refined example of 18th-century Chinese export porcelain, designed for the Western market.
