Pair of Yokethé puppets of traditional dancers, Burmese folk art, 19th-20th century - Polychrome and gilded wood. Measures 42 cm. This set comprises a pair of wooden puppets, conceived as independent figures, each in a dynamic pose with raised arms and bent legs, evoking rhythmic and gestural movements characteristic of traditional dance. Their bodies are draped in long tunics decorated with stylized floral motifs, combined with sashes cinched at the waist and bands crossed over the torso that visually structure the attire. The polychromy, enriched with gilding, provides chromatic contrast and highlights the reliefs of the fabrics and accessories, while the faces display expressive features and upward gazes that intensify the sense of stage animation. The figures retain a careful artisanal execution, with attention to ornamental detail and compositional balance, typical of the Yokethé puppets of Burma, used in ritual and theatrical shows between the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, where the narrative and ceremonial function is combined with a marked decorative value.
