Bidspirit auction | Bust of Buddha, Pre-Angkorian style,

Bust of Buddha, Pre-Angkorian style, Cambodia, 20th century - Bronze. Measures 60 cm. Sculptural bust depicting the truncated figure of Buddha at the torso, with a serene, frontal face, balanced features, and a restrained expression, framed by elongated ears and a hairstyle composed of small, regular protuberances culminating in a conical crown. The modeling of the chest and shoulders is achieved through smooth, continuous planes, accentuated by incised lines that define the drapery over the body. The surface displays an irregular greenish patina, the result of the metal's aging, which adds chromatic depth and highlights the materiality of the bronze. The work belongs to the pre-Angkorian style, characterized by formal restraint, frontality, and volumetric clarity—traits reinterpreted in 20th-century Cambodian production, which maintains the visual power and symbolic character of this sculptural tradition.
