Head of Christ. Spanish Gothic sculpture. 15th century - Polychrome wood. Measures 45 x 15 x 15 cm. Head of Christ conceived as a sculptural fragment of intense expressive power, with an elongated face and downcast gaze that conveys contemplation and restrained drama. The hair is arranged in wavy locks that fall symmetrically on both sides of the face, while the forked beard is articulated in well-defined volumes, contributing formal balance. Visible traces of the polychromy remain, accentuating the flesh tones and reinforcing the naturalism of the facial features. The carving combines idealization and pathos, characteristic features of Spanish Gothic sculpture. A work created in Spain during the 15th century, it possesses remarkable devotional power and formal quality.
