Bidspirit auction | Verseuse with classical female figures

Verseuse with classical female figures in relief, English manufacture, 19th century - Blue powder glazed ceramic bisque with white relief decoration and a ceramic lid. Measures 23 x 10 cm. This cylindrical pourer features clean lines, a tubular spout, and a twisted handle that introduces a striking interplay of curves, contrasting with the verticality of the main volume. The white relief ornamentation is arranged around classically inspired female figures, flanked by palmettes and friezes of vine leaves that run around the perimeter of the piece, creating a balanced and rhythmic composition. The modeling is precise, with well-defined reliefs and an elegant treatment of volumes, particularly evident in the folds of the garments and the vegetal elements. The piece is firmly rooted in the neoclassical style prevalent in 19th-century English ceramics, combining domestic functionality with a decorative style strongly influenced by historical references.
