Bidspirit auction | Verseuse with classical female figures
Verseuse with classical female figures in relief, English manufacture, 19th century - Ceramic bisque glazed in greenish celadon gray with white relief decoration. Measures 16 x 8 cm. Small-format pourer with a gently flared cylindrical body, integrated spout, and a handle modeled in the shape of branches, lending an organic character to the piece. The surface features a white relief decorative program composed of classically inspired female figures, arranged among stylized palmettes and friezes of knotted gerberas, regularly arranged around the body. The chromatic contrast enhances the sharpness of the relief and underscores the quality of the modeling, with well-defined volumes and a clear understanding of the motifs. A representative piece of 19th-century English decorative ceramics, where the neoclassical style is adapted to utilitarian formats through a careful synthesis of form, color, and ornamentation.
