Vessel with large spirals, Prehistoric cultures of Southeast Asia, 15th – 6th century BC. - Terracotta with slip and painted decoration. Measures 30 x 27 cm. Wide-mouthed vessel with an everted lip, short neck, ovoid body, and ring-shaped foot. Its surface is covered with an elaborate decorative program of concentric spirals in red pigment, connected by curved lines that create an enveloping and harmonious movement. The regularity of the design demonstrates advanced technical skill and a clear symbolic intention. The piece exhibits homogeneous firing and a stable surface, where the decoration remains highly legible despite slight alterations due to age. This type of pottery is associated with prehistoric cultures of Southeast Asia, such as Ban Chiang or the Mekong region, and is related to ritual or social practices in which geometric language expressed concepts of cycle, continuity, and cosmic order.
