Bidspirit auction | Bowl with figure decoration, Pink

Bowl with figure decoration, Pink Family, China, Late Qing Dynasty / Minguo period, 19th - 20th century - Porcelain decorated with polychrome glazes from the Rose family. The flared bowl is ornamented with a lively scene depicting three figures—musicians and a Taoist sage—dressed in traditional attire in shades of blue, yellow, and orange, arranged on stylized waves rendered with undulating lettering. The background incorporates clouds and a rock treated in relief, creating a balanced and dynamic narrative composition. The figures are finely delineated with brown outlines, while the delicately nuanced glazes stand out against a luminous ivory-white background, characteristic of the Rose family. The foot bears an apocryphal Qianlong imperial mark of six characters in blue underglaze, suggesting inspiration from imperial models rather than direct attribution. The piece reflects the decorative taste of the late Qing Dynasty and early Ming Dynasty, where iconographic tradition, technical virtuosity, and chromatic refinement converge in porcelain intended for both use and ornamentation.
