Circle of Alessandro Allori (Florence, 1535–1607) - Portrait of Torquato Tasso - Oil on copper. Dimensions: 20 × 17 cm. An interesting portrait painted on copper and preserved in its original frame, dating from the second half of the 16th century. Based on its characteristics, the small painting can be considered contemporary with the life of the great poet, born in Sorrento on March 11, 1544, and who died in Rome in 1595. The well-known engraving depicting the same image may have been made from this painting, which has been preserved in its original frame, still with the forged nails. It is believed that the work was created by a Roman painter around 1580. The small coat of arms located in the upper left corner of the painting, which does not correspond to that of the Tasso family, is likely the painter's own emblem, used in place of a signature.
