Romanesque holy water font with vegetal scroll decoration, France, 12th-13th century - Carved limestone. Measures 27 x 28 cm. Rare Romanesque holy water font, hemispherical and slightly open, adorned with a dense, continuous relief composed of stylized vegetal scrolls intertwined with geometric floral motifs. The decoration is arranged in superimposed registers enlivened by undulating stems and schematic leaves pierced by small holes. The thick, irregular upper rim shows wear from prolonged use. The robust carving and rhythmic character of the motifs recall the French medieval ornamental repertoire of the 12th and 13th centuries, where stylized vegetation acquired both a decorative and symbolic function within architecture and liturgical elements. Surface erosion and mineral patina reinforce the historical authenticity of the piece and its sculptural presence. 27 x 28 cm.
