Armorial mortar with fleur-de-lis, France, 17th century - Carved stone. Measures 42 x 63 cm. An important armorial mortar, circular in shape with a slightly flared profile, decorated on its front with a heraldic shield carved in relief and surmounted by a stylized crown. The blazon features a central fleur-de-lis surrounded by mantling and scrolls with flowing lines. The sides display projecting volumes of an architectural nature, reminiscent of corbels or structural reinforcements. The vigorous carving and robust modeling indicate an originally outdoor or functional use. The old patina in shades of pink and beige, along with stabilized cracks, erosion, and surface wear, testifies to long exposure to time and lend material authenticity to the piece.
