GIORGIO DE CHIRICO (Volos, 1888 – Rome, 1978) Attributed - Cavalli in libertà - Mixed media on cardboard. Dimensions: 31 x 37 cm. An interesting autograph composition by Giorgio de Chirico, depicting horses in freedom, a recurring theme in the work of this master of Italian metaphysical painting. The work develops a poetic and suspended atmosphere through a formal synthesis of strong lyrical character, in which the equestrian figures are treated with gestural freedom and chromatic sensitivity. It bears a handwritten inscription with the date and signature: “Rome, November 19, 1953, G. de Chirico.” According to oral tradition, the work originated as a direct donation from Giorgio de Chirico to the general who protected and saved his Jewish wife during the Nazi occupation of Italy, a circumstance that lends considerable historical and human interest to the piece. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required.
