The Gypsy Bullfighter - CARLOS MOREU (Granada, 1922) - Oil on canvas. Dimensions 66 x 56 cm. An Andalusian painter with deep roots in Granada and a prolific portraitist, he is known for his predilection for portraying prominent figures, including members of the Spanish royal family. This portrait depicts a young bullfighter in his suit of lights, captured in a reflective pose with his gaze averted. The loose brushstrokes and the simplification of volumes lend expressive power to the figure, within an aesthetic characteristic of 20th-century Spanish painting.
