Fascist shield with fasces lictorii and the inscription ”DVX”, Italy, Rome, fascist period (1922-1943) - Carved travertine. Dimensions: 50 × 36 × 8 cm. A unique sculpted shield made of travertine during the Italian Fascist period, featuring a fasces and the Latin inscription DVX, one of the main official emblems used by Benito Mussolini's regime between 1922 and 1943. From a private collection in Rome, it constitutes an important historical testimony to the official Italian iconography of the first half of the 20th century. The fasces, originating in Ancient Rome as an attribute of the lictors and a symbol of authority and imperium, were adopted by the Fascist regime as one of its main emblems, becoming a recurring motif in the architecture and monumental art of the time. The piece features meticulous carving, with a balanced composition and excellent craftsmanship, enhanced by the warm tone and characteristic veining of the travertine. Its size allows for wall mounting both indoors and outdoors, where it constitutes a significant element of historical and documentary value. Original works of this type are increasingly rare on the market, especially when they retain their original dimensions and are in good condition. This piece is presented in excellent overall condition, completely intact. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipping: no import duties apply within the EU.
