[Georgy Nikolaevich Karlov (October 10, 1905-1991) was a Soviet Illustrator and honored artist (1944).
In 1917, he began to learn to draw independently, including plastic anatomy and animal life. George spent his youth in Tashkent. During the great Patriotic war, he was not taken to the front, and so he began creating propaganda posters and anti-fascist drawings. In total, he completed about three hundred of them.
A recognized master in the image of animals, illustrated more than 100 books for children in publishing houses in Russia, Ukraine and Moldova ("Let's get acquainted", "Why and why", "adventures of Tyaf", "Tyap and Lyap" , etc.; in Ukrainian: Pushok I druzhok, Znamite kachenya Tim, Lebid, Pike I Cancer, etc.), as well as some issues of the Ukrainian children's magazine "periwinkle". His style is characterized by a careful reproduction of animal anatomy, but at the same time anthropomorphic and rich facial expressions. He called his characters "cartoons". He also illustrated "adult" books of the satirical genre, such as" 12 chairs", " the Ballad of the flaming heart "and"Lucky catch".
Author of the book-textbook "Image of birds and animals" (Enlightenment, 1976) / "Drawing animals and birds" (Izhitsa, 2002), which summarizes the extensive experience of the animal artist, fills an important gap in the literature about the image of animals.]
