[The series of books" cultural treasures of Russia " is devoted to the most outstanding Russian architectural ensembles, both urban and Church-monastery and manor. Russian Russian architectural ensembles described in the series illustrate various epochs and styles in Russian architecture from the 12th to the 19th centuries.this publication, authored by the outstanding Russian art critic Fyodor Gornostaev (1867-1915), introduces readers to the history and culture of noble estates and large residences of the aristocracy located in the South of Russia. There are preserved palaces of Imperial favorites, who were hetmans of Ukraine. Located on the territory of little Russia, these palaces almost did not take on the local color, being a reflection of European architecture, common to St. Petersburg and Moscow. Such palaces and manors were often built by the largest Russian architects: Rastrelli, La Mothe, Rinaldi, Quarenghi and others. The author describes the 18th-century Palace of the Hetman count A. G. Razumovsky in Baturin, the three-Holy Cathedral in Lyalichi, and the palaces of count K. G. Razumovsky in Pochep and Baklani. The harmony of nature and architecture - that was the key to creating these masterpieces. But soon after the death of their builders and owners, the luxurious palaces turned out to be redundant, too expensive to maintain, they were abandoned, and by the beginning of the twentieth century, some of these works of art were ruins. These are fragments of the lost noble culture, the interest in which gradually began to revive in the early twentieth century. the Main tragedy was that the real masterpieces of culture perished almost irrevocably due to the change of economic conditions and values. The book describes only the remnants of former luxury, captures the slowly disappearing past. It vividly characterizes the artistic and historical face of each of these centers and reveals what their uniqueness is connected with. Works of architecture are considered as a complex of visual techniques and techniques: in addition to the actual architectural forms, the art of interior design is studied – small plastic, monumental painting. The book is the first attempt at regional generalization of the collected material. The publication is illustrated with reproductions from photographs of architectural monuments and their details, as well as Church and historical relics. Made shortly before the revolutions of 1917, these images became an important evidence of the historical appearance and decoration of palaces and temples by the beginning of the twentieth century, as well as the degree of their preservation.]
