[Yakov Danilovich Ginkulov (1807-1870) - full state Councilor, linguist, translator, teacher, Professor at St. Petersburg University, Dragoman of the Asian Department of the Ministry of foreign Affairs, one of the first Russian Romanians.

Yakov Ginkulov was born in 1807 in Ovidiopol; of Romanian descent. Initially, he was a teacher at the Kishinev theological Seminary and took part in the establishment of Lancaster schools in Bessarabia.

On June 30, 1830, he entered the service as a translator in the Asian Department of the Ministry of foreign Affairs of the Russian Empire, in 1842 he was appointed second Dragoman, in the early 50s. he was a Dragoman of the VI class, and from 1853 — V class.

11 APR 1854 J. D. Ghinculov was made in the actual state Councilor.

In 1856, he was awarded the order of St. Vladimir, 3rd class, and in 1863 the order of St. Stanislaus, 1st class.

After serving for about 35 years in the Ministry of foreign Affairs of the Russian Empire, he retired.

When the Department of Wallachian-Moldavian was established in 1839 at St. Petersburg University (for those who wish), he was invited to take it. He taught using textbooks compiled by himself. At first he had the title of associate Professor, and from 1855 he was an extraordinary Professor. In 1858, the Department of the Romanian language was abolished.

Compiled by J. Hinkelbein grammar, according to A. I. Yatsimirskii, much ahead of his time. It was submitted by the author for the Demidov prize; it was reviewed by Archbishop Dmitry Sulima of Kishinev (Report on the tenth award of the Demidov prize, Saint Petersburg, 1841).
