Jozef Czesław Babicki (born August 20, 1880 in Michałowice, died on November 22, 1952 in Łódź) - Polish theoretician and pedagogy practices.
He studied first at the Lviv Polytechnic, and then at the university there. After graduation, he lived and worked in Łomża and Łowicz. Then he worked in the Pruszków complex of educational institutions (1919–1925). Then he started working at the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare as a ministerial counsel. In 1926 he founded a trade union of educators. After the war he settled in Łódź. He dealt with the issues of company education orphaned children, aggression among pupils and anaclytic depression. He was a supporter of Alfred Adler's psychology and tried to model his educational methods on it. Developed the following care and educational system:
The educator - was to have at least secondary education and a successful preparatory course. Babicki himself was involved in the preparation and conduct of such courses.
A group of pupils - considered a group of children with the number of children 9-10. He believed that the maximum number of children per tutor could not exceed 20. In addition, he was an opponent of correctional plants. He believed that children should be extremely aggressive in a large group of children who did not cause problems, so that they learn proper behavior by imitation.
• Union of pupils with the local community - was to serve that the children after leaving the correctional facility did not have a problem with entering society and finding a job. Babicki's pupil's contact with the school considered a very important thing.
• Child's privacy - a child should have primarily their own school supplies. He strived for every child to have a cassette in which he could only hide something of his own.
• Children's self -government - was to serve the best work in the group. At this place and not only Babicki's views resembled the views of Janusz Korczak.
• child development stage - Babicki divided the development of the child's psyche into 4 stages: the stage of acquiring moral knowledge (up to 6 years old), the stage of self -esteem (6-13 years), the stage of shaping good will (13-16 years) and the stage of shaping strong will (up to 20 years of age). The educator should be able to distinguish between stages in individual pupils and adapt his way of working with each child to the appropriate developmental stage.
• The family system of childcare - "family" consisted of 10-12 children of one sex. It was headed by the oldest child called "Mother" or "Father". Children in the family were varied age, just like in a real family. They lived together in the apartment and functioned spontaneously, the tutor's task was to control them. This served to develop empathy, closeness, trust, as well as to develop spontaneity. The apartment was fully equipped and large. Each child had their own school supplies and a cassette, the goal was to teach children the right to property and privacy. Babicki cared for children's clothing (the child decided what he wanted to wear, tailor -made clothes) and varied meals.
• Youth self -government and a democratic style of upbringing - families were controlled, but to a small extent, because Babicki's goal was for children to bear the consequences of bad choices. Every child in a family - even the youngest - had the right to vote.
• Rejection of co -education - in families there were children of one sex, because Babicki was afraid of the sexual needs of young people, which often separated his siblings. He was often criticized for that.
