Yosef Hafarti of Troflowitz (1770-1804), was a Hebrew poet and dramatist from the class of students of Moshe Mendelssohn. ”Kingdom of Saul” is his most famous work, which presents a dramatic lyric adaptation of the book of Samuel 1. The play was first published in Vienna, in 1794, and has since been reprinted many times during the 19th century, and even translated into Yiddish.
