Eight inserted plates of photographs (of rockets, racing cars and portraits) on coated pages and additional illustrations and diagrams in the text by Max Wallier. Dedicated to Fritz von Opel, sponsor of the famous Opel-Rocket car inspired by the Austrian rocket pioneer Max Wallier. Vallier, who wrote the introduction to this work, was a bold one, becoming the first casualty of the development of liquid-fueled rockets in 1930, when his engine exploded during experiments on his workbench. Gale was a respected German science journalist and a close friend of Vallier, whose science fiction accounts were full of realistic descriptions of rocket construction, launches, and crew experiences.
