Rabbi Aryeh Leib Friedman (1903 - 1993) was a servant of God and founded a network of bei mussar (religious schools) in the Land of Israel. He wrote the book Tzedekat Tzadik and was friends with the Rebbe. In 1918, after the Rebbe Rayatz left Russia for Riga, Rabbi Friedman wanted to meet with him. He traveled especially and by dangerous routes to Riga, and due to the weakness of the Rebbe Rayatz, the meeting did not take place. At the time, the Rebbe was in Riga, and they discussed Torah. Rabbi Friedman later said that all his great difficulties to get to Warsaw were worth it just for this meeting. From the very beginning of the Rebbe's career as president of Chabad Hasidism in 1951, Rabbi Friedman was interested in the Rebbe's teachings and devoted much time to studying and reading his speeches and articles. When the Rebbe's recordings were broadcast live, he would try to get into the Chabad apartment complex in Jerusalem to listen.
