As head of the Jewish Agency from 1935, and later president of the Jewish Agency Executive, he was the de facto leader of the Jewish community in Palestine, and largely led the movement for an independent Jewish state in Mandatory Palestine. Golda Meir (3 May 1898 – 8 December 1978) was the fourth prime minister of Israel, serving from 1969 to 1974. She was Israel's first and only female head of government. Shimon Peres (born Szymon Perski, 2 August 1923 – 28 September 2016) was an Israeli politician and statesman who served as the eighth prime minister of Israel from 1984 to 1986 and from 1995 to 1996 and as the ninth president of Israel from 2007 to 2014.
