Holzberg was born in Kovno, a scion of the rabbinical Soloveitchik family (his mother was the daughter of Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik, brother of Rabbi Yosef Dov Soloveitchik, the author of Beit HaLevi). Holzberg took private lessons in Talmud in his youth, and in 1921 he graduated from Kharkov University, specializing in mathematics and biology. Back in 1920, before receiving higher education, he began working at the Technological Institute in Kharkov. Upon returning to Lithuania, he began working in the field of education. From 1921 to 1933, he headed various educational institutions of the Jewish community in Lithuania: he was the director of the Telšiai Gymnasium (from 1921 to 1925 and again from 1927 to 1933), the director of the Jewish secondary school for girls ”Jawne” in Telšiai (1925-1933), Holtzberg was the founder and director of the Kaunas Gymnasium (1925-1926). He took an active part in the life of Jewish organizations in Lithuania, including ”Ahdut”.[2] In July 1923, Holtzberg entered the 2nd convocation of the Lithuanian Seimas on the list of the Bloc of National Minorities, to replace the deputy from Kaunas Šulim Wolf, who had held the seat in parliament for less than two months.[3] Holtzberg immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1933, and began working in the Mizrahi education system in Jerusalem. In 1943, he was appointed Chief Inspector of Religious Education by the National Committee (Vaad Leumi). He held this position under the auspices of the Ministry of Education after the establishment of the State of Israel, until the educational structure changed in 1953. In the parliamentary elections, he was placed 114th on the list of the National-Religious Party Mafdal[2]. Holtzberg-Etzion was awarded a doctorate. Gustav Wilhelm Ludwig von Struve (November 1, 1858 – November 4, 1920[1]) was a Baltic German astronomer, part of the famous Baltic German Struve family. In Russian, his name is sometimes given as Lyudvig Ottovich Struve (Людвиг Оттович Струве) or Lyudvig Ottonovich Struve (Людвиг Оттонович Струве). Dmitrii Matveyevich Sintsov (Russian: Дмитрий Матвеевич Синцов; 20 November 1867, Vyatka – 28 January 1946, Kharkiv) was a Russian mathematician known for his work in the theory of conic sections and non-holonomic geometry. He took a leading role in the development of mathematics at the University of Kharkiv, serving as chairman of the Kharkiv Mathematical Society for forty years, from 1906 until his death at the age of 78.
