Gitlin, early 1920’s, Published by the central committee of ”Tarbut” society in Poland. The editors-in-chief were first A. L. Ya'akobovitch then Aaron Zeitlin. The journal was published during the years 1922-1923 (total of 20 issues). Compositions by Hillel Zeitlin, Zalman Shneur, Ya'akov Fichman, Yitzchak Katzenelson, Levine Kipnis, and others. Illustrated children's stories. Most of the illustrations are signed in the plate: ”L. Tohb” (Hebrew), also illustrations by Ephraim Moshe Lilien, Hermann Struck and other artists. Hard cloth covers, size: 18 x 13.5 cm. Condition: some wear, staining and rubbing to covers; brown fragile paper; title pages detached, front cover of 3rd vol. detached; some chips because of fragile paper. Total weight: 860 gr. 1. A. L. Yakobovitch The first editor of Shibolim, a Hebrew-language children's magazine published in Warsaw as part of the Tarbut educational network. Little is known about his personal biography, but he was active in Jewish and Hebrew journalism in early 1920s Poland. He laid the foundation for the magazine’s secular and Zionist orientation aimed at fostering Hebrew literacy among children. 2. Aaron (Arn) Zeitlin (1898–1973/74) A renowned Hebrew and Yiddish poet, dramatist, and essayist. Born in present-day Belarus and active in the Warsaw Jewish literary scene during the interwar period. Took over editorial duties at Shibolim after Yakobovitch and expanded its literary and educational content. Emigrated to New York in 1939, where he became a professor of Jewish literature and continued his prolific writing career. Known for his philosophical writings and mystical poetry, as well as for authoring the lyrics to the song ”Donna Donna.”
