Hardcovers covered in imitation leather, and leather spine decorated with gilded embossing of the book titles. 17.5 cm. In good condition: The first volume has a superficial lack on the spine at the top, slight general wear to the covers, mainly on the covers, interior: brown/yellow paper in good condition without defects. 3.75 kg. * François-René, vicomte de Chateaubriand - (September 4, 1768 - July 4, 1848) was a French writer, politician, diplomat, and historian who influenced nineteenth-century French literature. A descendant of an old aristocratic family from Brittany, Chateaubriand was a political supporter of his monarchists. At a time when many intellectuals were turning against the church, he wrote ”Génie du christianisme” in defense of the Catholic faith. Among his works is the autobiography ”Mémoires d'Outre-Tombe” (Memories from Beyond the Grave), published posthumously in 1849–1850.
