He belonged to the circle of Wissenschaft des Judentums (“The Science of Judaism”), a movement that applied historical and critical methods to Jewish texts, liturgy, and institutions. Rothschild served as a rabbi in Alzey and wrote primarily in German. His intellectual position was moderate and scholarly: neither radical reform nor strict traditionalism. He sought to explain Judaism as a historically developing religious culture, while maintaining respect for its ritual and spiritual depth.
