Special! Old and Fine Bronze Sculpture, ”Court Jester of the Bamum” — Cameroon, Africa - Special! Old and fine bronze sculpture, ”Court Jester of the Bamum”. (Tribe of Cameroon, West Africa). 20th century. Made by quality sand casting with a dark patina. The sculpture depicts a hunchbacked figurine with two monkeys and a bird crowning his head.  Height: 38 cm. 2.96 kg. Light wear, primarily the patina of age.  * In the historic royal court of the Bamum, jesters and entertainers (often individuals with physical differences, such as short stature or a hunchback) played vital roles. They served as advisors, used sharp wit to diffuse tension, and performed with music and dance.  * Bamum — refers to a vibrant West African ethnic group and its historic kingdom, located in the Western Grassfields region of Cameroon. The culture is renowned for its rich artistic traditions, its unique indigenous writing system, and a centralized society that survived for centuries.
