Antique Victorian Pewter Butter Dish - Antique Victorian pewter butter dish, 19th century. Designed in a decorative raised circular form on a round base. Decorated in the Neo-Classical style with floral and foliate motifs on the lid; the front bears a relief portrait of a noble figurine.  The underside features openwork decoration in a pattern of crosses and round apertures. The upper section is mounted on two pivots on either side, allowing it to rotate downward (into the vessel) in a swiveling motion. No maker's mark found. Bears the mark '84' on the base — most likely a model number.  One pivot is original and the other is replacement.  Does not open perfectly, but is certainly an attractive piece suitable for display and also functional for use. Height: 18.5 cm. Diameter: 14 cm. 821 g.  In generally good condition; pivots as described above; patina of age.  . Losses.
