Pair of Antique Handcrafted Duvet Covers with Richelieu Lacework and Vintage Pleats – European/Eretz Israel Trousseau, Mid-20th Century - A lot of two antique white duvet covers, carefully sewn and embroidered as part of a magnificent bridal trousseau set. The covers are made from a heavy, fine-quality white fabric of the kind that has been preserved fantastically across generations and only improves with time. The lot presents two classic European embroidery techniques: The first cover is adorned at its center and borders with a phenomenal hand-cut embroidery of the ”Richelieu” type — a masterwork combining rich botanical motifs of flowers and leaves, left open and carved within the fabric, lending the cover a luxurious three-dimensional appearance. The second cover presents a more elegant and clean line, decorated with geometric drawn-thread work (hemstitch) and bordered entirely by an abundant frame of fabric pleats and wide muslin, imparting volume and nostalgic romance. Both covers retain their original closure solutions with period buttons, neatly sewn. The lot is sold as-is, as a textile and vintage collectible item. In very good condition, clean, and suitable for use. Due to decades of storage in a trousseau wardrobe, the covers display prominent fold creases (as seen in the photographs), and very light storage stains or slight surface yellowing of the white fabric may be present, removable by gentle cleaning and washing. Measurements of the covers: One: 195×158 cm. The other: 160×140 cm.
