Collection of 3 Official Postcards from the Third Reich and World War II (1939–1943): Including Official Portrait Postcards, Illustrated Special Event Cancellations, Rare Bilingual Occupation Cancellations, and an Original Field Post Letter (Feldpost) - A collection of three original documentary postcards, each bearing on its front official portrait photographs of Adolf Hitler, produced by the leading publishing houses of the period. The primary historical value of the collection lies in the philatelic and historical documentation on their reverses, spanning key episodes between 1939 and 1943: • The first postcard (Vandalism and Occupation of Czechoslovakia, March 1939): A postcard bearing an oval profile portrait. Its historical significance is considerable by virtue of two round red cancellation stamps dated 15 and 17 March 1939. These are rare bilingual cancellations (German and Czech) commemorating the Wehrmacht's entry and Hitler's visit to Prague Castle and the city of Brno (Brünn), struck over original Czechoslovak stamps (5 and 10 heller denominations). • The second postcard (A Living Testimony from the Front – Feldpost, November 1943): An official postcard from the publishing house Kunstanstalt Stengel & Co of Dresden, featuring a photograph by the Party's house photographer, Heinrich Hoffmann. The reverse bears a long, densely written personal letter in black ink in detailed period German handwriting. The letter was dispatched as military mail (Feldpost) on 9.11.43 to a soldier in an artillery unit (2. Battr. Frei. Ausb. Btl. 104), and bears an official military mail stamp from the transit station Siegelsbach. • The third postcard (Reich Propaganda and Art – Munich, July 1942): A postcard from the official numbered series ”Männer der Zeit” (Men of the Time, no. 91), published by Jos. C. Huber. The reverse bears an official special-issue German Reich stamp (15+10 Pfennig) with a surcharge addition. The stamp is cancelled by a large illustrated special-event cancellation (Sonderstempel) in black from the city of Munich, dated 17.7.42, marking the ”Tag der Deutschen Kunst” (Day of German Art) exhibition and depicting a mythological figure. 🔍 Condition of Items: The collection is preserved in generally good to very good physical condition. The first and third postcards are preserved in very good, near-mint condition (Excellent / Near Mint) — the paper is entirely clean and stable, without creases, fractures, or tears. The cancellation stamps (red and black) are sharp, complete, and perfectly legible, and the stamps are fully intact. The second postcard (the field post item) shows light natural yellowing and minor age stains characteristic of an item that passed through active military postal service during wartime, but the paper is completely stable and the handwriting is entirely clear and legible. 🏛️ All three items were produced by the central artistic printing houses of Germany at the time (Stengel & Co, Jos. C. Huber), which specialized in high-quality photogravure printing. The cancellations and stamps appearing on the postcards render this collection a fascinating documentary and museum-grade item. These items combine philately (official stamps), World War II military history (Feldpost), and political-geographic documentation of the annexation and occupation of European territories.
