Foltz Pottery Redware Sheep Silhouette Plate by Christian H. Foltz, 1984 - This contemporary redware earthenware plate was produced by Foltz Pottery in the Pennsylvania German folk art tradition. The shallow vessel features a hand-crimped pie-crust rim. The interior is decorated with a central folk-art style silhouette of a sheep rendered in a terracotta-colored slip, featuring textured details representing wool. This figure is set against a dark, mottled navy blue glazed ground. The unglazed redware reverse is marked with several identifiers. A central circular stamp features a stylized tulip surrounded by the words FOLTZ POTTERY and REINHOLDS, PA. The name C. h. Foltz is hand-incised above the stamp, while the date 1984 and a small cross or T mark are incised below. Diameter: 7.5 inches.
